THE GREAT USUMACINTA RIVER ADVENTURE
(or how I spent my summer winter vacation)

These were the first waterfalls we came to. Not very spectacular but for day two on the river, interesting enough. They did not rise more than fifteen or twenty feet (three or four meters) above the river. Probably during the wet time of the year they did not exist since the river level rose to the tree line - the level of the falls. We had lunch, took pictures and explored. Some of us swam a bit or attended to personal hygiene like washing hair. It was a hint of things to come.

Next stop was the great and fabulous Mayan city, Piedras Negras on the far side of the river in Guatemala.
